Thanks to the Orange County Railway Historical Society (Sep 04 newsletter) for pointing this out:
A new bridge is under construction where the BNSF/Metrolink single track line makes an S-curve over Santiago Creek on the Orange/Santa Ana border. The new bridge will be to the west of the existing one; for some reason the pillars on the new bridge do not line up with the ones on the existing bridge.
Double-tracking in this area will require some realignment of the existing track through the area; I would think the extra track would force the removal of the sidewalk on the east side of Lincoln Ave. through Santa Ana.
