Crane accident on BNSF in Westmont, IL 8/15
Posted by Chris30 on Thursday, August 16, 2012 9:07 AM

A crane installing a new signal bridge over the BNSF tracks in Westmont, IL tipped-over and crashed blocking all three main tracks of Chicago Subdivision (Racetrack) for around five hours on Wednesday, August 15. The crane operator was not injured and the new signal bridge was heavily damaged.

Metra commuter service was restored around 4:30pm with a lot of delays. Commuters were not happy with Metra for unclear and conflicting information, including the first alert that stated there wouldn’t be any service and to seek alternate transportation. (That would be a lot of people seeking alternate transportation.)
