BNSF Transcon Closed with a 30 Car Derailment with Hazmat Release
Posted by edbenton on Sunday, May 6, 2012 5:30 PM

Ottawa fire officials have confirmed three members of the department’s Hazard Material response team and firefighters from other cities within the county are on their way to assist in containing a 30-car freight train derailment outside of Toulca. No word of what materials may be onboard and no reports of any injuries at this time.  We had about 4 Tornados in the Area when this occured so who knows when they will get it Reopened.  I have no clue what is scattered or the power I am dealing with limbs in my back yard right now.  At the time of this we had Golf Ball Sized Hail here in Streator so it was a Bad Storm.

Nothing but thunder here, but it looked and sounded pretty nasty to the south. Our F.D. has a couple guys headed there with the MABAS 25 hazmat team..

From our local Newspaper sounds like a Doublestack got caught in the mess and scattered a few Containers so who knows what was in them.  http://www.mywebtimes.com/archives/ottawa/display.php?id=455257

That must have been one horrific accident and the longest train I have ever heard of!

Ottawa is in Ontario, Canada

Toulca is in Mexico

and Streator is in Illinois!

Yep 2 of the 3 locales are within 20 miles of me and the 3rd is my Hometown.  Touluca has 2 of the Best Mom and pop Italian Eateries in Mona's and Capponis this side of Naples in Italy.  Then in Ottawa we have Woodies Steak House that has hosted Comics Like Gallagher and IIRC George Carlin in the last 20 Years.

I love Mona's!

Don't forget that Wyoming is only about 30 miles away from Galesburg.
