Avenue H on the Brighton Line is one of the nicest place on the system.

New Head House on the west side of the line.

On the trackway at the new head house

The "Old" head house, formerly the Ackerson Building, and now landmarked. They did a fine job of restoring it.

Inside the restored building

The Broadway Line enters the tunnel (above) and here is one of the deep-tunnel stations. Here the ROW was deep bored rather than built by the cut-and-cover method.

Finding his way out of a tunnel, the LION finds himself on the Dyre Avenue Line in the Bronx. Riding at the "rail fan window" (RFW). Here there be vineyards?

BTW: This is an old photo. R-36s are no longer on the railroad.

What strikes me in this photo, and visits elsewhere in NYC MTA facilities is that they use huge trainsheds  reminecent  of the likes of Phila's Broad Street on the large scale and CV's St. Albans, VT on a small scale. A lot of enthusiasts miss out on a lot of railroading by dismissing subways and mass transit in almost any city.

RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. On the 14th Street / Canarsie Line, 8th Avenue is the Manhattan terminal. The green "starting" lights tell the conductor to close the doors. The doors have been closed, and the trains is gone.

The Broad Channel part of the line is the problem.  The line itself on the Rockaways is back in service as a shuttle from what I've heard.

Thx IGN

Nothing on Rockaway Island is working...there is no need for it either since the customers would all want to be leaving the Rockaways in favor of going to Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan.  MTA website does not list it as being in operation.

Hey, Lion, I gotta question.

I notis you are a proud North Dakota boy and I unnastan that.  You live out there in prayrie lan.  So howcome you build a moddel of Gotham sub way trains?  You got some kind of sub way envy or somethin?  Howcome your not buildin James B. Mountin's Great Big Baked Potato Rail Road?

The LION was born in New York City, back in 1948 (The same year that they introduced the R-10 subway cars.) LION lived in New York and the City until 1983 when him moved to North Dakota. You can take the Felid out of the city, but you cannot take the city out of the Felid.

LION has no interest in Coal Trains, in Grain Trains, or in Oil Trains, and that is what we have running out in the front yard. BNSF does that, I do not need to.

LION been sloth in posting photos lately. Him is still here. And here is the Rockaway Line as it crosses Jamaica Bay. Sandy destroyed this crossing and it will not be back in service until summer time at the earliest. Big Surprise, Eh?

Well, Lion, you answered my question.  But North Dakota is also home to the Empire Builder and also home to a lot of people who rode the Empire Builder to live in sod houses and build the Empire we all live in today.  And there is a lot of interesting history about James J. Hill and E. H. Harriman and Northern Securities and all that stuff.

Lion is his own Empire Builder...you should see some of his videos riding the head end of one of his trains from his Bronx to his Coney Island plus the videos he shot while actually riding Mr Bloomberg's trains all over the real system!
