CSX unsignaled grade crossing upgrades
Posted by blue streak 1 on Saturday, December 17, 2011 10:41 PM

After a fairly detailed examination of CSX grade crossings on the CSX A&WP sub have found several upgrades are being completed.

1. For first time all private crossings now have a sign stating such.

2. All crossings have new DOT numbers on crossbucks and a yield sign.

3. any non signaled crossing is having at a minimum all major and minor vegetation cleared including cutting some trees that are  over 15" in diameter.

4. The clearing appears in most cases to be 50 ft from track at almost all the various roads with a wedge going 200 - 300 ft each track direction on both sides of track.

5. There appears to be preparations to bulldoze down a natural berm at one crossing to increase visibility.

6. a few signaled crossings are getting this clearing treatment as well.

There is also some tree removal of our famous leaning pine trees that overhang the track but not any significant wholesale tree removal ??

Has anyone noticed this at other CSX locations??
