I guess I missed something...and I'm choosing not to go in them...but why on earth are there TWO sticky topics on letters and numbers?  Seems like a better topic for http://cs.trains.com/trccs/forums/1.aspx than here...but that's just me.

Well... there are two ways you will find out why they are there.

One is to open at least one of them and read the original posting in the thread to see what the OP had in mind.

The other is for some person to take pity on your curiosity and explain the reason here.  I am not that person... if I had to look to satisfy my curiosity, then you have to too. Zip it!

Some time back, we got the powers that be at Kalmbach to change the number of thread titles  showing on page one from 20 threads to 40 threads.  The idea being, that it would allow a wider variety of interests and types of threads to be discussed without knocking them off page one.

While those two threads mentioned don't interest me, they do seem to interest some folks.  That's what it's all about- variety of interests for a variety of readers.

I'm not sure why the 2 threads were pinned to remain at the top.  Usually, pinning is reserved for *official?*  Kalmbach information.  Were they not pinned, the level of interest would dictate how long they stay near the top and on page one.

Being pinned, they are also taking up 2 topic spaces that may be better used elsewhere.  I mean why pin those and not the diner, lounge, or Roosevelt threads?  Add me to the list of the curious...

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

I too am curious. Also, it seems that it is Kalmbach's policy to lock topics before they have too many posts (whatever that number is). However, given the nature of these topics, it seems they will get very large. What is Kalmbach planning to do about that?

If the topics get enough interest - Kalmach should applaude that something has that much interest.  If a highly subscribed topic is creating server problems, then they had better look at the forum software as the cause - not the interest of posters in the topic.  Forums exist to genereate traffic - not to quash it.

I guess that was more of my point originally.  I realize that Kalmbach wants to appeal to everyone from 0-4-0 through Acela and everything in between, that's all well and good - it's their 'pond' so to speak.  If the "generate interest" philosophy then the Diner/Lounge/Roosevelt threads should get pinned too...and the "what's the best loco" thread too IMO.

Heck, why not a thread where you take pictures of every milepost from 0.1 on up...

I say 'pull the pin' and let them either stay or drift based on their own merits...not "because I said so", which is what it appears to be.

I don't mean to sound sarcastic, although I know this will.......There is no plan.  Most all of what happens on the forums, as far as any policy is sort of an ad hoc type situation- deal with things as they occur.  (Or don't deal with them- OK that part was sarcastic. Mischief )

The long and short of it, is that the forum is, within reason, is whatever the members want it to be.

I have always felt strongly that all of the threads that I have initiated should be pinned because of their signficance and importance.  Instead, they all eventually get locked or deleted.   Laugh

Maybe you should set some loftier goals?  Aspire to have a thread pinned, locked and deleted.  Now there would be an accomplishment! Whistling

Why pin it when I can just bump it every day...a couple times a day...I saw a train this morning.  That counts, right?

Referring to the two "pun threads"?  As of tonight:
-23/40 posts in ABC are by Stourbridge Lion (57.5%)
-29/44 posts in 123 are by Stourbridge Lion (69.5%)

I don't think that "much interest" is there aside from the OP.

Similar kinds of threads are thriving on several of the other forums I participate in.

Of course those forums are populated by a younger more inquisitive clientele that like to go out and seek material to enter in the threads rather than complain that they have seen it all and don't want to look for it again before they head to their graves.

I've seen similar threads elsewhere too...just not pinned.  That's my point.  If the interest is there then they live on at the top of the page and if not...they take their chances just like everyother thread.  Seems that I'm the only one that's bothered by those two threads (pinned but not "official" Kalmbach announcements, etc) ...so I'll let my complaints die with this thread.
