Wisconsin passenger service question
Posted by eolafan on Thursday, October 27, 2011 7:40 PM

Is anybody able to tell me when passenger service stopped on the old Milwaukee Road line through Hartford, WI.  This is now hte Wisconsin & Southern line to Horicon and I just saw a post card from back in the early 1900's showing the Hartford station on Main Street.  The company I work for is headquartered in Hartford. Thanks.

I want to say the last regularly scheduled passenger train ended in the 1950s.  Hartford is on the route of the Berlin Bullet, Berlin-Ripon-Horicon-Milwaukee.  However, there were detour trains and other special moves, probably right up until Amtrak Day.

The "Berlin Bullet" (unofficial name) was probably the last scheduled passenger train on the line.  Left Berlin in the morning, for the trip to Milwaukee.  Left Milwaukee in the afternoon-evening, to return to Berlin.

The April 1954 Guide shows one passenger train each way calling at Hartford, WI.

My next guide is the month prior to AMTRAK which of course is not much help.
