I officially handed in my moderator's badge last week. After four years, it had begun to wear on me, but more with respect to it not being needed nearly so much as when I was appointed nearly four years ago. I am the last of the original three. I return to being a regular member feeling that I have done my bit to try to keep your forum as dynamic and friendly as possible without also making it too stilted. I know I didn't always get it right, but...I honestly meant well.
I didn't think it would be right to continue to post as if nothing had changed about my status or ability to accomplish what I was sometimes asked to do previously....that has gone by. I also would like to thank all of you, present or not, for being decent folk, ladies and gentlemen, who are keen in your pursuit of the understanding of trains and railroads. I have learned a ton, including how to pull black feathers from between my teeth gracefully.
Norris is a fine moderator, if I am any judge at all, and it goes without saying that he is a true gentleman. He was joined a few months back by John Whitten who hangs out on the model forums. I urge you, in closing, to give some thought to offering your services as a moderator at some point in the not-too distant future. It becomes a chore, eventually, and one tires of it. Our hosts seem to be happy with what moderators do for their forums, and are likely to welcome volunteers as the need arises. It needn't be a long commitment, say even 6 months to a year if that is all you care to give in the way of effort and time. Every little bit helps.

Well, even though we didn't see eye to eye on all issues, I offer you thanks for a job well done.
I know is was difficult to keep your personal opinion from coloring you moderators glasses, but I for one think you did a great job at it.
Glad to have you back as a "regular" member of the forum, as opposed to the "unleaded" variety.

As a moderator on a small local board, I can appreciate the effort and the headaches. The local board is a little more free swinging - "off topic" isn't really a possibility - but we still have our issues from time to time.

I'd like to say thank you to Crandell for what he has done for the forum. I even had some interaction with Crandell before I became a moderator ( ) What I found most enjoyable, is that Crandell, and Tom, have a wicked (weird? perhaps) sense of humor. I can relate to that. Life was not meant to be sour and serious all the time. If I were to judge a man by what I learned from him, I'd say that from Crandell, I learned better how to deal with people, and maybe, how to have a little more patience with people. Where I used to have an "Off with his head !!" attitude with some of the moderating issues, I've probably drifted more to a "Now just a cotton pickin' minute there there cowboy, let's talk this thing through.". And now, I can poke at Crandell and get away with it. Muh-ha-ha-ha ! -Norris
