Here is one for Vancouver Islands E&N...........Everythings Neglected
CRI&P = Cry & pee.
UP = Uncle Pete
Although not UNIVERSALLY ;known as uncomplimentary. The Winchestere & Western (Nee Winchester & Wardensville), the W&W has been the "Weak and Weary" for as long as I remember. (Retired from WW in 2005.) The Western Maryland was fondly remembered as "Wild Mary", though I don't know why. J W Hood
Also forgot 'till the first was sumitted: From my days as an agent for a connecting shortline--CSXT: Cars Sometimes, eXcept Today. J W Hood
UP=Usually Parked
CSX = Crashin' Smashin' eXpress
BNSF = Boring New Santa Fe
UP = Unwanted Pricks
NS = Notorius Suckers
ET&WNC = Eat Taters & Wear No Clothes
I have never heard anyone mention the Peoria and Pekin Union, but I have been somewhat amused by a possible pronunciation of the abbreviated name.

Old one:
Nevada County Narrow Gauge = Never Come. Never Go
A rather lame nick that I came up with
San Diego Northern RR = Sex, Drugs, No Rock & Roll
- Erik
I heard they decided on BNSF instead of SFBN so they could say Big, New, Shiny FRISCO or Big New Santa Fe instead of Same Fleabag Burlington Northern!
CSX = Chicken Scratch Express
NS = No Steam
NYO & W = New, Young & Out of Work
O & W = Old & Wobbly
D & RGW = Dumb & Raggedy Goats Wobbling
Canadian National -> Crash National
Amtrak -> Amtrash

Algoma Central & Hudson Bay Ry. (later renamed back to Algoma Central) -> All Curves and High Bridges, or All Curves and High Bumps

Mrs. Jim Buster, a young mother from Grandview, burned to death in a train wreck at Hahn's Crossing (Muscatine Island) on Dec. 4, 1919. Two Wapello passengers were badly burned, but survived. The Muscatine, Burlington and Southern Railroad became known as the Murder, Burn and Suffocate Railroad afterward. Rail service was discontinued in 1922.

For a while before Amtrak came into operation, it was feared that the dread disease, Rail Pox (Railpax), would strike. However, the epidemic turned out to be Amthrax.
New York New Haven & Heartless
Not associated with the RR name or initials, but way back when the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City RR (CRANDIC) was running interurbans it was affectionately known as the "Vomit Comet". I have heard of other passenger ops being refered to that way, too.

Interesting, we must have a lot of Frisco fans on this board, because I have NEVER heard a Frisco reference for BNSF before. It's always been Big New Santa Fe.
Which, if you believe the merger was to get Santa Fe's Intermodal knowledge AND realize that their management team took over, is kind of accurate.
The Frisco is best forgotten at least as far as BN is concerned.
SPSF- Shouldn't Paint So Fast is still my favorite.
And of course, UP = The BORG.
You WILL be assimilated your unique railroad will be added to our own. Resistance is futile.
One I heard around here for the Illinois Railnet was the ILL Rails that Need the Net. Since every week they seem to put a train on the ground near here in Ottawa.

I spent quite a bit of time down on the Thayer Sub from Springfield, MO toward Mempis, TN in the mid 1990s and it was quite amazing to see the transformation that took place on that line. Before the merger there were just a handful of trains on that route. After the merger the line became the eastern connection to the NS/CSX and the southeast. Traffic boomed.
There were days that the single track line saw nearly 20 daylight movements--not during a 24 hour period, but sunrise to sunset. The line saw major upgrades: lengthed stretches of double track around Thayer, new sidings, MOW blitzes. And then the coal traffic started to come besides.
So the line hosted hot Los Angeles to Memphis Z-trains, stack traffic, merchandise trains along with coal trains that had manned helpers out of Springfield for more than 100 miles down toward Thayer--it was a neat time with all the old C30-7s, new SD70ACEs, Warbonnet Santa Fe locos along with BN's own loco variety during that time.
There was someone up in Springfield, MO that had his own BNSF-issued Ford Bronco. It was white and he took it upon himself to have a logo made for the driver's door. It was the BNSF initials set inside the Frisco coonskin emblem. That was pretty cool and that said it all in regards to the changes the line had seen.
