While surfing some resources for news this evening, I came on the above mentioned item:

" Fire on Historic Rock Island Swing Bridge"
Curiosity about it caused me to revisit one of may favorite old Threads and a resource from this FORUM;
Nanaimo73's Magnum Opus about the Mississippi River Bridges @
http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/t/42151.aspx?PageIndex=1
and I think I have located it:
"Newport, MN Bridge #27 is just south of St. Paul at Newport. This was a Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific bridge built in 1895. It has not been used for rail service since the Rock Island shut down in March of 1980.Terraserver WikiMapia Googlemap WikipediaJohnweeks.Newport Passenger- The last passenger service across the bridge was the Plainsman in 1969. Traffic- abandonedBridge type- swing span"
If this is not correct, hopefully someone will set me straight on the bridge. Thanks!
