There was a recent post here showing a BNSF unit in a plastic wrapped condition being moved to storage. I believe Beaulieu posted that it was a unit that was requiring very heavy repairs, and was being sent to a long term storage location.
So posted on a website that I monitor was a similarly packaged UP locomotive #7400 (lettered on the wrap). judging from the exposed frame and trucks, the unit appears to have a recently applied paint job (?).
The photo was posted by Terry Cantrell to rrpictures.

Anyone have any information about this unit?
Captioned as an AC45CCTE and photo graphed at Paola, Ks.
( South of KC area). Enquiring minds, etc.
There's already at least 1 thread on this here.
It appears to be some sort of commemorative paint job that slipped by the community. Last I heard it was in Council bluffs being held pending.
This type of covering was used on all the Heritage units. Its not a new thing.
According to th Utah Rails UP roster it is an AC6000CW. They are being renumbered back from the 7000 series to their original numbers.
No, that's wrong.
That is not an AC6000, you can see the Radiator profile under the Shroud. That's a GEVO.
Plus, why would they cover the loco just for a renumber?
According to the UP RR roster(Utah rails.com) 7400 is a number in the C45ACCTE Type, group of 125 numbered 7345-7469 purchased in 2009.
Judging by the shiny paint showing in the linked photol; Is this another "Heritage UNIT" (?) or Special repaint(?)
I'm inclined to suspect it is some kind of a Commerative Unit to be unvailed at an event of special note (?) Like the Boy Scout Unit (UP 2010).
Anybody else is free to guess, or post info on 7400.
It is interesting to compare the BNSF and the UP. UP could have done a bit better job covering the frame of the unit on the rear, but note the lettering. Official UP number stencils and color (or decals??) and herald, compared to the BNSF grafitti spray paint number.

I'm not sure if you've noticed how a lot of in transit locomotives have their numbers painted on...

Like the rest of the world, I have no idea what is under that shroud and will not make a "GUESS"
They are going to Commemorate a Special Occasion or a Person.
What organization or individual will the Union Pacific Railroad be having a event for in the coming weeks?

Where's the fun in that?
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.

And is there any significance of "7400?" Maybe part of a date like with the Heritage units?
The Union Pacific Museum has their 50th anniversary this year so it maybe for that. Thats just my guess though I could be wrong.
I think it would be rather ironic to paint a brand new unit for a museum commemoration.

I think you are right. We already know UP 844 is being sent from Cheyenne to Council Bluffs to assist in the Museum aniversary celebration in early November; this locomotive might very well be another part of it..
Information over on Trainorders.com suggests that UP 7400 is painted with a pink ribbon to celebrate UP's support for Susan G. Komen for the Cure (of *** cancer). The unit is supposed to be unveiled Tuesday by the Durham Museum (UP's old Omaha passenger station).

I think it would be more bad$1***$2nbsp;to paint the whole thing pink. Instantly recognizable in the US to everyone.

Presumably this will happen on 9/28.

From the Omaha-World Herald: (http://www.omaha.com/article/20100923/ENTERTAINMENT/709239798/796)"If you have half an hour: Watch Union Pacific Railroad unveil its “Pink Ribbon Locomotive” 10 a.m. Tuesday just outside of the Durham Museum, 801 S. 10th St. It’s a rare honor. The Union Pacific has created only 15 commemorative locomotives in its nearly 150-year-old history. The pink ribbon locomotive celebrates the company’s support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and the many people — employees, community members, friends and family — who have been affected by *** cancer. Information: durhammuseum.org" Presumably this will happen on 9/28.

In my first post the picture of the 7400 Bagged at Paola, Ks and then the final linked photo taken 9/22 wt Council Bulffs, Ia. leads me to ask. Why would the 7400 be that South of KC area on 9/16 when it was going to be at an event on 9/28 in Omaha? Curious!
Maybe NOT! It would make sense if the Locomotive had been painted at Jenks Shop in North little Rock, Ar.????
I just noticed that I'd been censored...guess the computer doesn't like us talking about mammary glands, afraid that the teenagers among us would think we were being dirty.
Never mind.. it isn't censoring me.
Go figure.
Confirmed *** Cancer engine. Large pink ribbon on the side. Looks like they skimped out though. Still think they shoulda painted it pink.
I Ithought it might be appropriate to show of a side-n photo of UP's 7400 with it's honor to *** Cancer Survivors :
