NS RR "Lawmen" Corporate video
Posted by samfp1943 on Thursday, August 12, 2010 4:51 PM

Found this link, and the attendant video while looking for some information on the NSRR's Corporate website.    It thought it woukd be of interest here.  Some of the construction photos in the video of the tunnel work is unusual and not often seen.

The video is interesting, and well done. Looks like those involved were having an enjoyable time.

So for what all that is worth, here's the video linked:

and this is the link to the NS corporate site as wellhttp://www.nscorp.com/nscportal/nscorp/Media/

Linked here is the NSRR' corporate photo gallery, with several sets of really interesting photos as well!

Enjoy!

Huh?  The Lawmen filmed a music video.    Pretty interesting.   It certainly was geared toward promoting the NS Agenda, but in some sense, that's what they exist to do.

I had the priveledge of attending an NS Corp function about 5 yrs ago where they played.   They're actually quite good.  Far better than you'd expect from this video.   My recollection is that most (if not all) of the band members are former NS RR police, hence the "Lawmen" name.    They play for NS events just as holiday parties, terminal openings, community relations events, etc. all over the system.   They play mostly country, but mix it up some too.   Lots of covers of stuff you'd know

The thing that I remember most from seeing them play is closing with Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird."  One of the NS AVP's at the event kept yelling "Freebird" between songs (ever seen that before?).   It was a rather commendable rendition.   You'll recall that Freebird has a pretty hardcore guitar solo toward the end.  The rather talented gentleman who plays the peddle-steel took the solo and absolutely rocked it.  He ain't a tiny fella and he ain't a spring chicken (neither am I) but he just tore-it-up!    He had the slide going and was literally rocking that peddle-steel.  I don't know how it didn't fall over the way he had it moving around.   It was really, really cool.   You'd swear it was Van Zant, Rossington and the guys up there jamming away.

Thx, Dblstack

While 'drilling down' through the NScorp.com website, I found this little note about NS Corp. picking a new advertising agency to heighten a"Brand Awareness" Campaign. Possibly, the linked video is part of that campaign?

Here linked is that info: http://www.nscorp.com/nscportal/nscorp/Media/News%20Releases/2010/rp3.html

also on their Media site is a note about the Protocol for visiting NS Corporate Properties. In light of some of the negative stories of late about problems with Corporate Police and munoicipal Policing  agencies and railfans, that was a interesting notation:

On the Media page of NS Corp.com:

 "...Visiting NS property

Visits to Norfolk Southern property by journalists and photographers can be arranged provided there is considerable need. Advance notice is required. Visitors must sign a waiver and be accompanied by an operations officer.

It is permissible to photograph Norfolk Southern trains and operations from vantage points that are well away from railroad property. Trespassing on railroad property is a serious offense - one that could expose the trespasser to potential danger..."

I was having a very frustrating Friday The 13th at work when I punched up that video.  I just leaned back in the chair, laughed and smiled.  Thank you "Lawmen" and thank you NS.

"By many measures, the U.S. freight rail system is the safest, most efficient and cost effective in the world." - Federal Railroad Administration, October, 2009. I'm just your average, everyday, uncivilized howling "anti-government" critic of mass government expenditures for "High Speed Rail" in the US. And I'm gosh darn proud of that.
