That's the Crystal Range, which must have been named that due to its snowiness-- it always seems to show up extra prominently from a distance. Looks like the track is aimed at a nameless 9400-ft peak at 38.8847 N 121.1871 W, 131 km from the west end of the causeway

You don't need an unusually clear winter day to be able to see the Crystal Range from the hills above Berkeley, but only on the clearest days is it plainly recognizable as snowy mountains rather than clouds.
