Return To the Tower
Posted by nbrodar on Monday, May 3, 2010 11:09 PM

Well it finally happened...

One of my fellow yardmasters suffered an unfortunate accident, and I get to step into the breach.   There's a pool going among the crews for how long it will take from my hair to go completely white.

Look on the bright side... at least they think that you will still have hair.

Congratulations--I think! At least they're getting experience when they put you up there.

And white hair will make you look extinguished!

Ah, Nick, like a review trip, something to help you decide if you made the right choice to leave.

 Nick,

Appreciate every one of those gray hairs.  You have earned each and every one, and they should command a bit of respect from those under your command.

I'm a retired aircraft mechanic, and we referred to the long term experienced guys as 'graybeards'.

Gray hair=experience. Go get em Tiger!

''+1'' to what Norm said above.  Good luck to you with it.

. . . One of my fellow yardmasters suffered an unfortunate accident . . .

Let us not forget this aspect of the events, either.  Condolences and sympathies to whoever it is.  Hopefully it's not too debilitating, and a speedy recovery will ensue - to the benefit of both of you, perhaps.

Chris30

at least they think that you will still have hair.

Well...there's a side bet on how long I'll have hair at all. Sigh

Mook, Carl, Norm and Paul...thanks..I think. Smile,Wink, & Grin  There was much rejoicing among the Train-monsters when I was "awarded" the job.  Second shift is the most intense and requires the most foresight, slight of hand, and multitasking ability.  Banged Head

ValleyX

something to help you decide if you made the right choice to leave.

As if I needed a reminder. Dead  Should tell you something, when I'm the youngest yardmaster and holding middle trick with Friday and Saturday off.

zugmann

But can you yardmaster in the fog???

As long as the building doesn't leak...if the fog gets in, (or if the Train-monster lets it in) all bets are off.  Wink  Sometimes, I have to chase to fog out with a few "colorful" phrases. Shock

BaltACD

Philadelphia is a perpetual fog zone.

We say the same thing about Baltimore.  The fog down there keeps eating my yard engines! Whistling

No...You're not on my division...I would get a ride in the white boxcar for providing supplies to non-division personnel.  Blindfold

Condolences and sympathies to whoever it is.  Hopefully it's not too debilitating, and a speedy recovery will ensue.

The YM in question tripped over the radio pedal.   We are not sure if/when she will return.

How does one trip over a radio pedal (especially with small shoes)? We tend to keep those things under the desks or control panels.

There in lies the rub.  We don't really know...says she got tangled up in the cord.
