A similar subject dear to my hart - JB Weld!!!!!

When I was too young to know any better, I guy I was helping took an aluminum cylinder head that had been deeply pitted from a coolant leak and smeared JB Weld all over it and then told me to take it to the machine shop and have it fly cut and it was still wet !!!! All those guys at the machine shop could not stop laughing !!!!!, I never heard the end of it.

I waved a 20 dollar bill in the air and said, "THE FIRST PERSON THAT WILL CHANGE MY FLAT TIRE CAN HAVE THIS 20 BUCKS!". They all looked at me with a blank stare, they must have not understood english or thought that was a weak price for a mid-severe storm tire change. Anyways, I ended up dragging my poor tired rear end out there and changing it myself and going the rest of the way home.

Oh man, I "didn't see" the item below the Military Tape. Oh now I "see" why. [;)]

It is "Camouflage Duct Tape" in the traditional 4 color "green". AND the ad says, " . . . great to apply to boats or blinds where permanent application is intended, 20 yard roll." The price is only $3.33 a roll.

I would take your order but I am using the camo tape to keep my GI Body Veil on and "You can't see me." hahahahaha [;)]

<Jim is still on a ROLL, hahahahahaha.>

Hi, Howdy, Hey [:D]

Hello Adrian and others [:)] [8D] [;)]

You all get the "Cheaper Than Dirt" Catalogs, don't you? [;)]

If you do then check out the July catalog ( # 607) and turn to page 39. The top row and the 3rd item over to the right, yeah, thats it, you can't miss it.

For those of you who don't have one of these catalogs the item is "Military Duct Tape". I quote from the ad, "Heavy Duty, 100 miles per hour extra strong duct tape. THOUSANDS of uses, 2" X 180" roll."

AND GUESS WHAT? [;)]

IT COMES IN BLACK . . . haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa [:D]

It also comes in OD Green [;)]

Soooooooo Adrian, if you get her a roll of black, she can "fix" her own tire next time. hahahahahahahahaha [8D] [:D] [;)]

And the item next to the Military Duct Tape is GI Body Veil (for concealing people or things). After you give her the tape then you can "hide" from her. haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa [:D] [:D] [:D]

<Jim is on a "ROLL" today hahahahaha, "Ha I Kill Me" , said Jim doing his best Alf-like voice.> [:D] [;)] [:D]

In a recent mailing (you know THOSE sweepstakes and magazines offers) I found the following item for sale.

ULTRA TAPE

"This is one tape that can really take the heat . . . and moisture . . . and the rust . . . and the pressure!" The ad claims this tape won't crack, melt or unstick and is perfect for virtually any repair. It shows it being used to repair a garden hose and the indoor plumming.

Now if you only had THIS tape when you helped the lady you would not had to change her tire. ( ads don't lie, right?) [;)] [8D]

Oh and the price . . . only $11.96 for a ten foot roll. Two rolls for only $17.94, price does not include shipping. May I take your order? [;)] [8D] [:D]

....I don't know, the gal that asked Adrian for some tape did in fact drive away with air in her tire and not using duct tape...Of course by the good graces of help from Adrian but maybe that was her plan to get help...Playing not to know.

Re-changing a tire - Mookie learned to change a tire in high school - driver's education - but never had to....there was always some nice young thang that would wander by and offer to change it for me! What nice people in the true mid-west!

You shouldn't be making fun of duct tape.

A few years back an NPR reporter for "All Things Considered" interviewed the leader of the Northern Minnesota Indian Tribe that is the leading producer of duct tape harvested from the duct tree. Seems that there were big problems, as I recall, caused by a growing demand for the extremely rare colors other than silver. I think there was also a broblem with demands to stop genetic research undertaken to produce a wider variety of colors. All of this was causing a great deal of stress on on a culture that had engaged in this work from pre-Columbian times.

I don't remember what year, but I am certain it was an April 1st broadcast.

Funny- when I worked on multi-million dollar helos in the military duct tape (or hundred mile an hour tape) was standard issue. These days working on consumers daily drivers it can't be found in the shop. Now that they have COLORED duct tape...hmmm- the possibilities!
The best use of duct tape I ever saw was a Hoover vacuum cleaner motor with polarity reversed duct taped to the top of a quadrajet carb on an older Buick Riviera. A poor-mans supercharger!

Heck - I saw an ad for CLEAR duct tape the other days. When you factor in duct tape dresses, that gets REAL interesting....[}:)]

There is a lot of philosophy in the Conrail engineer's posting. Isn't it a simple analogy for USA transportation planning in general?

Here is a classic train story concerning ductape.

One day I was assigned to a local with a single assigned freshly painted Conrail GP38. As I got on the front step to head out up the lead to put our train together I thought something was odd about the pilot of the unit, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Later as I was looking down while standing on the pilot I realized that it was crooked. Obviously the unit had been involved in a minor collision in the past. As I looked closer I noticed the 27 pin MU connector was at an odd angle. The base of it had been ductaped to the pilot. The really hilarious thing was that whomever had painted the unit had painted over several inches of the ductape without repairing the MU connector properly...

We had a good chuckle over that...
