Anyone hear if this is ever going to run. The crescent star was to be along with the crescent New York to New Orleans train but divide to Dallas at Meridian, MS.

I believe this train was put on indefinite hold. Given the need for infrastructure improvements sought by KCS from Amtrak I doubt it will ever run. Remember, this train was one of the ones Amtrak was putting on as part of it's ill fated Express network...

While it would be nice to have a direct line to New York City and Washington DC from Texas, from either Dallas or Houston, what Amtrak really needs to put into service is a daily manifest between the two largest Texas cities.....

It would certainly be nice to have good service in Texas, but I wouldn't hold my breath for the addition of any service especially something within any particular state absent significant direct (403b?) support from that state. Also, they would need to build some new equipment for any expansions.

Amtrak needs more cars if they are going to put any new train on the system.

I've been trying to find information on this too. The Crescent was one of the long distance trains that Amtrak had planned to scrap a year or two back and I believe the Crescent Start got put on the back burner after that. The Crescent did see an increase in ridership over the past year , not sure on the percentage, so perhaps the Crescent Star will become a reality one day.

Ray Dunbar, a big Texas Amtrak advocate, runs it.

It's really unfortunate Texas doesn't have better Amtrak service, being the 2nd most populous state. Southwest Airlines really has bought-off the state lawmakers there, threatening them if they funded rail service.
