QUOTE: Originally posted by Mookie Got to - trying to keep up with visitors, work, tornados and BNSF RR! Running around like a one-armed paperhanger with an itch! Nora and family arrived. That was a kick! Nora is pretty mellow - in fact, the whole family is. Her husband is a Brit by birth and Mookie had to listen very carefully and keep reminding herself that yes, we were speaking the same language. Kids were adorable and very well behaved. Believe me, I can judge them from my own experience. Even with tornados about 15-20 miles away, no one got too excited. We didn't even get that much wind, altho we did get some debris from the tornados that landed in some Lincoln backyards. Lots of aluminum! No train cars! Did lose one town of about 300 and one death, which was unfortunate. Derailed some mt coal cars, but if I say BNSF track, someone will correct me, so will just say mt coal cars. Nothing on news as to which railroad. Now - comes the questions and sightings. Will let Nora tell you what she saw, but this is what I saw when she wasn't around. All BNSF unless noted: 3433 and 3402 - really mellow horn on 3433! Loved it. 9729 - 8928 and 8906 on tail. 2439 - GP 30 just loafing around 616 SF, 1072 and 552 SF - they were hauling alcohol heading west - commented to driver maybe they were going to Coors? (It's a joke people!!! Don't get excited) 2903 - a 39E going around the Wye 9829 - 9815 - 9899 - coal train 8112 and 4013 - freight 2857 SF Yellow and Blue - GP39-2 - very pretty! Better than Orange or even NORAnge.... This was on Saturday - they have the whole east end of the entrance to the yard torn up to one degree or another. Lots of MOW working on the tracks and huge piles of ballast that make it hard to see. But still run a few trains thru there! Sunday - Nora and family watched with us - we saw equal #'s of Orange for Nora and Cream and Green for me. Also saw - 9817 - 9874-7188 UP that needed a bath and 9514 9966 - 9984 - 9673 5674 and 9752 781 GP38-2 2826 - GP 39M 5680 9603 6199 - an SD9-3 - a rare bird just puttering 2701 - GP 39 7074 and 6710 8971 and 8811 8952 and 9718..... not as much as usual, but pretty good for all the construction, weather, security threats, all that garbage. A funny footnote - Friday nite we met for dinner and then went train watching. They have a security guard watching the crossing, especially for pedestrians and bikers, so they stay off the work area. One van pulls up with couple and two small kids. One car pulls up next to it, with couple. Guard stands up to watch us - and the women get out and start flapping their arms and looking around at all the tracks. The men stay in their vehicles and read. Wonder what he was thinking! [:D] Guess my only question is when will this track work be done, so we can go back to watching lots of traffic - but won't expect an answer from anyone any time soon. Like the weather, whenever it gets done, it will be done! Gettin' cloudy - stay safe Willy - you are more apt to have bad weather than we are! Nora heading to KS today - hope she doesn't see Toto or Mookie going by!!!! Mook

Made sure current house had textured walls before we bought it[:D][:D][:D]

Is it worse than last year? We don't get tornadoes but we have to keep an eye out for those nasty cyclones (hurricanes). Dave Can't speak for Mookie, or even say that tornado season is early, but it has been every bit of active, especially for the past week or so. The heavy weather has run all the way from Tulsa to Minneapolis to Connecticut, and everyplace in between, with over 50 twisters on several days. Several small hamlets have been levelled, although loss of life has been minimal (don't think I'm trivializing it, though). I was on the road Saturday night in Central NY and just missed several tornado warning areas. It has been interesting...

They mentioned of taking injured into Lincoln and I thought of you and your visitors as you may have been out doing some sight seeing, etc....
QUOTE: Originally posted by skeets Now the only job that sounded interesting to me was the 2439 GP30 "just loafing around..." I call that piddlin. I always looked forward to the day when I'd have the moss to be able to piddle; you know, take a car and spot here; run light through the yard to find a number for the yardmaster. You know, piddlin'. I know you must be able to piddle at times, Mook. A woman of your high position certainly can order the calls held, your assistants know not why, while you PIDDLE! Life can be grand, eh, Mook? [Not to worry, I won't rat you out!] Let the youngsters have the mile long freights at 60 per; it's the piddling life for me! P.S. I'm not a doctor, but I dunno...a new leg. You maybe should see a doctor. That could be serious. Hope it's not in an inconvenient spot.
