BNSF In Grand Forks, B.C.
Posted by Doc Murdock on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 2:13 PM

Yesterday I was in Grand Forks, B.C. doing some visiting and spending some time away from Nelson. For the first time in months if not a couple of years I heard a train whistle. A week or so ago one of the mills is re-opening, for how long no one is sure. But I guess it has been awhile since BNSF has operated that way because of lack of demand for rail traffic. Hopefully things will return to normal. I was looking at a rail map some time ago and saw that BNSF had trackage west of Grand Forks, B.C. Do they still run a train through there still and what industries were or are being served in that section of the world? I guess that BNSF operates to Grand Forks from Kettle Falls and Spokane. Can someone fill me in on this and what industries are being served between Grand Forks and Spokane/Kettle Falls? Thanks.

Sorry.  All of my travels in that area have been focused on the remnants of the Kettle Valley Railway (CP).  According to my SVP Atlas, by Mike Walker, Grand Forks, BC is now served by the Kettle Falls International Railway (KFR, nee-GN [ex-BN/BNSF?]), and, locally, by the Grand Forks Railway (GFR, ex-KRVR [Kettle River Valley Railway], ex-CPR).  I only live a day-trip away and should check it out.  I look forward to the upcoming posts.

That is good news that the mill at Grand Forks may well be up and running once again.
