Nice collection, interesting theme. I really like Alex's submission - it meets the theme on two counts. Both the motive power and the cars in the train appear to be matched sets.
But I went with Drew's entry because I liked the unique composition.

Theme is too easy...all ya gotta do is find a string of engines painted the same, probably all the same kind of unit, too...all well and good. So you've got to go a step further and find the Seattle Sounder or a GO Transit set or what Jim Wrinn found in Switzerland!

The photos were all interesting, with lots of different perspectives. However, I thought that most of the images were rather washed-out and faded looking, except Jim's and Alex's. Jim's shot showed some amazingly steep track. But my favorite was Alex's. Nice composition, bright colors, nice scenery.
Well, it's close to home goin' time, but: jist gotta say somethin' bout Andy Cummings shot... 1st off: It's nice to see those units lookin' so good. Last saw them up at: Greenville Junction on B & A afore I left for new job in not so boofull' Alabama. Had worked for several years@Newscenter2 in BAN-GOR an used to see Bangor and Aroostook a lot while chasing stories... Even snagged a couple of cab rides in an F-3 AND The BL-2...
By the same token: Have a soft spot for IOWA NORTHERN too, as they played in a "SWEEPS PIECE" back in the 80's. AND YES: it was in a "tired" & FADED BN GP-9. Was doing a pc on: THE CHANGEING FACE OF RAILROADING IN THE NORTH EAST PART OF IOWAY. Part 5 was with the then fledgling IOWA NORTHERN. Called the prez, down in "GREENE" Ioway for interview and maybe a cab ride for some "cover video"... Instead: he suggested: SOME THROTTLE TIME. "Hell, if we can teach GOV. TERRY BRANSTAD how to run a locomotive, WE CAN DO THE SAME FOR YOU." Got my news director to come along and "SHOOT" for me. My debut was a short run south with 2 geeps and 8 empty grain hoppers. Had an ex "ROCK" engineer show me the ropes... Throttle, brakes, air...knew signals, so off we went. Half rain half snow... My boss out on the catwalk trying to hold the camera steady without slipping and falling off... or losing he hearing. That ranks right up there with a T-Bird ride and my 1st jump outta a good airplane at BENNING...
ANYWHO: Pitchur is a winner in my eyes. An do have a couple of "attaboys" for my shooting/photography & editing.

Where is the photo of the Santa Fe Red/Silver consist??
I ranked it a tie between Andy and Alex...giving Andy the vote because the train was more prominent in his shot...and because of the nice touch of the crossbucks at the left.
Consist, to me, refers to the cars making up the train more than to the locomotives...and while it's great to have matching motive power, the makeup of the train would have to be solid matching cars for the consist to fit the criteria.

Colorful mountain photography is hard to beat. But I voted for Andy's shot; it is more like something I might run into someday. I am constantly amazed at the photos posted in "Trackside" each volume. Keep up the good shooting!
For my tastes, I really liked the expanse of snowy white bifurcated by the colourful locomotives. Man in nature.

.....This week you photographers really made the choice difficult. Looking down the list I first was taken by Tom's beautiful shot coming down the grade with all the green in the photo....and, then I came to Alex's choice and looking at it, it is really impressive with the theme.....The engines and the consist....
Continued to check all the prints and couldn't believe how well each photographer got so close to the theme this week.....Very competitive. All beautiful photos to my eyes.
In the end, I had to choose and had to use the "theme" to vote for Alex's rendition. Again, all very nice photos. And such variety. Great competition this week.

I agree, where are the red & silver War Bonnets? Looks like 'bait & switch' to me. I will have to look further to decide which to vote for.
Alex Mayes gets my vote this time. Interesting subject in a beautiful landscape, but mainly, my vote goes for its graceful composition. Drew would have come closer to getting my vote if the train had been just a little bit further down the track - that would have created a more balanced composition. I like the "going away" idea a lot. Nice work, all of you. See you next time.

I voted for Tom's photo of the BNSF. With as many paint schemes that they have it is unusual that they would match. The smaller Roads would be more likely to have their fleet all in the same scheme because they are more localized.GO TOM GO !
Walkin' the Rails
Well, last week I was shocked to see that somehow I had completely missed a session of train photos. I know I’ve been busy with my head stuck in a computer the past several weeks writing music, but I can’t imagine that I missed one of my favorite pastimes. So this week, everything stops so I can take a look and vote.Being an OLD Santa Fe fan, I not really that hepped up over the new color scheme and tend to dismiss pictures of the pumpkin trains, even if they are some pretty nifty photos this week. I did like Andy’s Iowa repaints and I’ve been on the Swiss train. Nice paint but I “buy” American, so I decided to just enjoy the memory. I was drawn to Drew’s side view picture, but this week I finally relented to the snowy slopes of Utah and voted for Alex. It’s a real working train and just looks mighty fine set against the mountain slopes.That’s right - I’m going for “pretty” this week.

Great submissions, it boiled down to Alex or Tom for me. Alex has wonderful scenery but I feel the train is almost secondary to the hills. Tom is my choice based on the locomotives as the subject and the rule of thirds composition. Easy to be a critic with a glass of Merlot next to the computer!

Very funny. There will be a sudden upsurge in the sale of old fashioned black and white film however. Good news for Kodak.
Tom's pumpkins had the lighting, plus there were more trains than landscape.
(So LU-Trains writes music, cool, I'm a musician (electric cello & bass) and a railfan, must go together. I can't write worth a darn, so that makes me an interpreter of music, so shoot me some of the music so I can interpret it, my wife is a pianist so we'll take some piano-cello duets).

Had to go to with T. D.'s. Maye's photo was TOOOOOO similar to his Vol 122 entry to be considered in the running. The others are pretty spiffy too, but not as great as T. D.'s.
