 In fact forget the Grey Poupon, a big bottle of French's Mustard will do fine.

Let us not become tangled in a discussion over the suitability of Miracle Whip versus Mayonnaise. We settled that one some time back in the Cafe (we moved into new, cleaner, quarters not long thereafter)

 Maybe it should be, "This is WGN Chicago.  No other station can make that statement."

Once upon a time, a long time ago -  -

WGN was the Chicago Tribunes station, the Worlds Greatest Newspaper;

And WLS was Sears, The Worlds Largest Store.

And neither could WGN. It was WBBM that was in the Wrigley building (until the mid-50's). John Timm

''. . . and again, and AGAIN, and AGAIN ! ! ! ''

- Jerry 'The Hammer' O'Malley, a submarine-hunting / ASW helicopter pilot in Tom Clancy's 1986 military novel, Red Storm Rising, about the progress of one of his 'dipping' sonar searches, and the possible title for a book he was contemplating writing about same.

That's a dang good book.  One I wish would be made into a movie!  You read all the rest of his books Paul?

Sign - Off Topic!! - if that even needs to be said - and if I can say that - about a thread that doesn't seem to have any topic Confused

Agree.  If done literally = without any updating, it might be dated in the sense of the countries and their political posture, but not much else - ''People remain people, no matter what we try to do with them'' [Maj. Gen. Pavel 'Pasha' Alekseyev], right ?  Muslim terrorists blowing up things - where have we seen that already ?  Then again, Vladimir Putin may be taking them back to the old days.

Yes, I think I've read all of - and own most of - Clancy's Jack Ryan and John Clark volumes; I haven't read more than one of the Op-Force [?] series.  The only one that comes close to RSR in my opinion is 1996's Executive Orders.  - there's a lot of good stuff in there, and from what I know Clancy either really did his research or had really good advisors on all kinds of technical and legal matters.  The books before XO then varied in quality and interest to me, but they each had their own merits.  After that, they've been very uneven - I liked The Bear and the Dragon, didn't like Red Rabbit at all, tolerated Rainbow 6 and Teeth of the Tiger.   Did you notice how much rail transport of the armored units was a central part of the plot to both RSR and Bear & Dragon , and also of the missiles in Debt of Honor ?   I forget which one it was, though, that mentioned how tough it was to keep rail lines out-of-service after being bombed - that may have been buried in Without Remorse someplace.

Others that I've liked are World War III by British General Sir John Hackett, and most of the books by or with Larry Bond - Clancy's co-writer in RSR, Harold Coyle, and Frederick Forsythe.

- Paul North.
