High-Speed Rail Series on National Public Radio This Week
Posted by Paul_D_North_Jr on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 4:57 PM

I was surprised to hear the first segment on this yesterday (Monday) evening, at about 6:10 PM EDST.  I thought the lead-in / introduction said that it was going to be a week-long series, but it seems that only 3 segments are scheduled so far.

It is being plugged as a 'Special Series' - ON THE FAST TRACK? -

''The Obama administration is pushing the development of high-speed rail lines, claiming that ultra fast trains would ease traffic, help the environment and boost the economy. Critics question those claims — and say the United States has a long way to go to catch up with other countries' rail travel.''

See - http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=112034391

Here are the links to the 2 segments that have been broadcast so far:

Yesterday - Monday, 31 Aug. 2009:

''States Make Pitches For High-Speed-Rail Money'', at -

 Today - Tuesday, 01 Sept. 2009:

''Some Regions Better Prepared For High-Speed Rail'' - Florida, The Northwest, and The South, at -

 http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=112442142

The 3rd segment appears to be on ''U.S. High-Speed-Rail Proposals'', at -

I have no info as to what day, date, or time this segment will air.

Hope this is of interest to at least some of you/ us.
