Syracuse probably came close to the record for snow this winter, but we got a fraction of it here. Still, we've gotten rain - the creek was running pretty good yesterday. We'll have to see how spring and summer pan out.

The water level in the great lakes has been pretty bad over the past few years. Navigation, both shipping and recreational does suffer. while many places on the St Lawrence are very deep, some are just barely able to clear the big ships by August.

Was watching some heavy weather in Kansas and OK yesterday - we'll have to see if and how it moves east.

In just about 5 to 10 minutes it is going to storm again here in Omaha. There's a nice little line of non-severe storms moving in. The funny thing is that as I am typing this, the sun is still out. Yesterday at my house we got about an inch and a half of rain. At Eppley Airport they got 2.50 inches which is a new daily record for March.

We had an F4 near here last May . It frormed about 6 miles from me and stayed on the ground over 30 miles. It was atleast A mile wide and had several outflow twisters on its edge. It struck at night. IT ws one of the rare times we headed for the basement. We went twice that week. Driving along the interstate it looks like a lawnmower went over and cut the trees off. The RR had some cars just blown off the track they were not picked up and blown anywhere. I saw it forming on the radar and beat the sirens to the basement. I kept watch on the radar from the computer in the basement. Tornados are not fun to be in especially at night.

....Cold air or not, we now have little green leaves coming out and buds on the trees and my yard really needs mowing today but it rained this morning and it will have to wait....Cold air out in Nebraska not withstanding....Spring is showing it's force. 77 degrees here yesterday and 50 miles south at Indianapolis 80...!

lol! On Saturday when we got that heavy rain, our crocuses were beaten into the ground. I guess the ones at my house croaked just a few days earlier than Mookie's crocuses are planning to croak. [sigh]

That's a charlie. Another turkey becomes an artifical reef. The driver and RIO punched and took a Martin Baker check ride and rode the silk elevator down. Got a ride to the beach then off to the quack shack to donate some fluids.

You paid for those years ago. We're not buying any of those anymore. You're buying F18E/Fs now to replace them......just means one less to take to the boneyard. Both guys are fine so I hear. No details on why they went down. They had declared an Emergency and were headed to the beach when they punched. Nice job of keeping over the water. I don't fly pointy noses, but one of the great dilemmas those guys face is what to do when something bad happens around populated area. Alot of good folks have morted riding a plane in to make sure it didn't hit a city.

How many on this thread remember 30 years ago, 4/374? About 148 tornadoes that day.

My aunt's fiance was killed in the tornado that hit Brandenburg, KY. My daddy & his sisters were coming back from Hodgenville from their aunt's funeral, and followed the tornado back to Louisville. I even have a picture somewhere of the RAINBOW that evening.

I will NEVER forget that day.[:(][:(]

I wasn't alive way back in 1974 but I have heard lots about that outbreak. I am sorry that the tornado had take the life of one of your family members. It's strange that even after such a violent outbreak, there was rainbow. It was like God was assuring the world that life would go on and that he would make that outbreak end.

I've always been scared that someday we're going to get a big tornado in Omaha. The last big one was in 1975 so I think that we will be due for another one someday in the near future.

I do remember it, but wasn't in the middle of it, fortunately. You just never know. Having grown up at the north end of tornado alley (SE Michigan), twisters are always in the back of my mind. I'm refreshing my Skywarn tomorrow night.

I did live in the middle of another outbreak, in 1953. Too young to remember, but I've read and heard plenty about it. Turns out that the town I lived in got hit before the mess in Flint, and the State Police and others were headed for us until they heard about Flint. No one was killed in Milford, but there were some injuries and close calls. Flint wasn't so lucky - many died.

Was a senior in high school when the Xenia cluster went through Cincy heading for Xenia for points north. Saw two funnel clouds go through the east and west sides of town with us in between. Local TV station stuck a camera out the window as one went by. Lots of old trees got rearranged that day.

Outside dancing in the rain and snow yesterday. Wasn't enough to put out the 6000+ acre fire to the north of us, but it did slow it down. Green starting to show up in the lawn.
There is hope. -We are still 6 inches behind in moisture for the year however.
