Norfolk Southern Train Symbols pre-1988
Posted by kbaker329 on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 2:21 PM

Hello, I'm looking for a list of NS train symbols prior to 1988 when they still used letters with numbers.  I've looked all over the internet and can only find data after '88.  My grandfather worked for the Wabash/N&W/NS out of Moberly, MO and I can remember him being called for TC-3, TC-4, etc.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

This may help a little, based on May-June, 1974 Official Guide:

TC1 - Buffalo - North Platte, Ne  (UP)        arrive KC @ 2am

TC2- North Platte, Ne (UP) - Bellevue, Ohio           Lv KC @ 1215pm

TC3 - Buffalo - North Platte                                arr KC 330pm

TC4 - North Platte - Buffalo                                lv KC 1030pm

SC1 (Supercharger) Detroit - KC arr 5pm.  This was a run thru to the Santa Fe

SC2 (Supercharger) KC - Detroit                          Lv KC 9pm

SK1 St. Louis - KC                                             LV StL 830pm

KS2 KC - St Louis                                              LV KC 1230pm

KS4 KC - St Louis                                              LV KC 1130pm

KD16 KC - Decatur                                             LV KC5am

DK3 - Decatur - KC                                            AR KC 1130pm

KC77 - Bellevue - KC                                          Ar KC 1155am

That is all I have.

Not so fond memories of Moberly, having played against Charlie Spoonhour's Moberly Juco basketball team.  The gym was a barn with about 10 rows of bleachers all the way around the court, packed with rabid fans and a loud band.  One couldnt hear or think.  One seldom left victorious.
