Well, here's another one from Floida.

Three teenage boys decided to go fishing off a CSX bridge.  Unfortunately, CSX wanted to use its own bridge at the same time.  Two of the boys made it to safety.

The bridge was marked with four  "No Trespassing" signs.  The mother of the deceased 17 year old has filed a legal action against CSX and its Senior Road Foreman of Engines, Dennis Merrill.

My sympathies and support to Mr. Merrill.  I don't know him, but I'm sure he doesn't deserve this.

The report of the investigation says the deceased tried to out run the train barefoot while carrying his fishing pole.

I'm of the opinion that any money awarded would be a "reward for being dumb".  But I'll bet mom gets a nice CSX check.

"By many measures, the U.S. freight rail system is the safest, most efficient and cost effective in the world." - Federal Railroad Administration, October, 2009. I'm just your average, everyday, uncivilized howling "anti-government" critic of mass government expenditures for "High Speed Rail" in the US. And I'm gosh darn proud of that.

It is a crying shame that stupidity is rewarded and not punished.

This reminds me of a kid a few years ago that decided that he was going to cut apart a fence near a CSX mainline with some of his friends and to jump onto a CSX train, only to miss and get one of his legs cut off. They were not far from the school that they were skipping and some of the kid's friends went to get the school nurse to get help for their idiot friend.

The kid was described as being "brave" and "heroic" by said nurse.

If I remember correctly, the attempts to reattach the kid's leg failed. The incident was a topic on a local call in radio show, and most of the people who called in were women that were concerned for the kid, and trying to blame CSX for it. I called in and stood up for CSX (I know, I really dislike CSX, but I dislike stupid people more.) and said that the kid got what he deserved. Needless to say, more women called up and called me a male pig and insensitive to an injured child.

The kid's parents kept saying that they were going to sue CSX for not stopping in time, then they wanted to sue because of holes in the fences along the main line, despite the kid admitting to having cut the holes in the fence that his friends used to go from home to school, as it was a shorter route. So now we have a stupid, lazy kid that is now one leg short.

I moved from the area before I heard of what was done about it, but I found nothing about it on CSX.com after the fact.

It is really sad that people will not own up to stupid things they do, EVERYTHING has to be someone else's fault.

And about mention of the stupid woman crying to get her way with the lawsuit, it is sickening how quickly that tactic works.

So many scales, so many trains, so little time.....

Among other claims, the suit also alleges the train was traveling faster than permitted, which caused the 100-car train to strike the boy before he could get off the trestle.

So in future, CSX should limit all their trains to a speed no greater than that of an idiot teenager running barefoot on a trestle?

What a joke.

The locomotive's "Black Box" should answer that question.

The funny thing about the incident with the idiot kid that got one of his legs cut off because he was trying to impress his idiot friends is that one of the things that was taking place at his school was something to deal with Operation Lifesaver.

I remember hearing something about the kid after the accident, is that he thought it was "funny" to play on the tracks because he knew it was wrong, but the trains were wrong for not stopping for him.

Idiots like this should be put in cages for everyone's safety.
