Does anyone know when the former BN route into Mobile, Alabama was abandoned and maybe why they decided to let it go? The line I'm talking about came down the western side of Alabama from Aliceville through York, Cromwell, and into Mobile. From what I can see in my SPV atlas, BNSF and NS now run eastward through Aliceville to Kimbrough, Alabama where the traffic then turns south to Mobile on the former Southern Railway to Mobile.
Meridian, MS is my hometown and it was a Southern and IC town for the most part, Meridian and Bigbee is there also. It was always somewhat stunning to go over into Alabama and see Cascade green and black BN power running through the southern pine woods.

BN abandoned the north end between York and Aliceville in the mid 1980s, and picked up trackage rights on NS between York and Boligee.
The last runs between York and Mobile were by trains 771 and 772 on June 19, 1992. They replaced this line by running over CSX from Atmore to Mobile.
The south end of the Pensacola line became the Alabama and Gulf Coast in 1997.
