Amtrak to Niagara Falls
Posted by topcopdoc on Sunday, June 29, 2008 5:06 PM

My wife and I usually travel to a different state each year and ride a railroad there. This year we decided on riding the Amtrak Maple Leaf from Penn Station in New York City to Niagara Falls.

We only want to see the falls have dinner and return the next day since we have pets to take care of, but I have some questions.

Which station should we arrive at Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada or Niagara Falls, USA?  We plan on staying at a hotel with a view of the falls and dinner at the Skylon. Is there anything else I need to know about our purposed journey?

I guess you should take the station that is closest to your hotel. Or if you plan to spend more time on one side, that is probably the better choice.

While you are there be sure to ride the Maid of the Mist. That's a tour boat that takes you right up close to the falls. You can board from either side of the river, so at least for that it doesn't matter which side you are on. The Canadian side has a better view and is generally nicer, but the New York side is making great strides to become more appealing. If you plan to go into Canada, be sure to have all the correct documents for the border crossing and return, or your fun trip may turn out not so good.

Here's best wishes for a great trip. We will look for a full report when you return!

Note that I edited out some gross misinformation. If you already saw it, I apologize. If you didn't see it, then never mind.

If you are going in to Cananda the U.S. Border and Immigration Control may require you to present a U. S. passport as proof of U.S. citizenship when you return. You should check that out with Amtrak before you go, either by phone or on their web site, www.amtrak.com
