Tehachapi-The best Hotel?
Posted by tarnett on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 11:30 AM

I'll be staying in Tehachapi in October and want to get opinions on which is the best hotel as far as cleanliness, security, and view.  Thanks to all.

Hi Todd,

I always stayed at the Best Western, which is a decent place, but the view is limited. To see the tracks you have to walk to the end of the building. But there is a new Best Western (right next to the old one) that looks nice and has many rooms with a view of the tracks. I have never stayed at the new one but I would say it's your best bet.

They also have a state prison there that has a pretty good view of the tracks and they have excellent security. Probably would not have to do to much to get in either.

The only problem with that place,is the management won't let you out to visit Walong,Caliente, or any bother point of interest.

The new Best Western is right next to the older one on the west side.  You can actually get a street-side room on the second or third floor with a balcony that looks over the tracks, though, IMHO, still not the best view, at least from the second floor.  It is strictly a no-smoking establishment, FYI, and they had a nice continental breakfast in the mornings, a little more elaborate than most places.  The rooms are sound-deadened, but you can still hear the horns and such when they come by, but it's pretty muted.  (Didn't bother the wife at all, so pretty quiet.)

Like anything in town, it's close to everything.  Cheapest gas has been on the highway that goes west to the prison, though it's all going to be pretty pricey this summer.
