Just had a breif chat with a brakeman at the BNSF yard in Kansas City. He said that Uncle Sam has a hand in telling the RR`s to purchase locos from both manufacturers. Ge has their own service people working on maintainig their locos in Kansas City. He says that the ex SF locos. are in good shape, but the ex BN locos are really beat up due to the fact that they hauled many heavy coal trains. he spoke of locos of the CP which are large and ultra modern. Five seats in the cab, refrigerators, hot plates and micro wave ovens. These locos have to self contained because they may be stranded in the middle of nowhere during the winter months.
