Espee Ferries
Posted by Mr. SP on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 11:30 PM

When the Southern Pacific ferry boats were taken out of service in 1958 many of them went to the State of Washington. The last four have been taken out of service this past December. The ferries were built in 1927 and served the SP and WSF for eighty years. Excessive corrosion and wear on the hulls have made it uneconomical to repair the four remaining Ex SP ferries.

The four are the Illahee Quinault Klickitat and Nisqually. More information can be found under Retired Fleet "Steel Electrics" on www.Evergreenfleet.com an excellent site for ferryboats in the Northwest.

The former SP ferry Shasta is moored at Goble Oregon in somewhat sorry condition.
