I will disagree with grain. First off, it depends upon what carrier. An open eye catches something new. For example, a unit of corn for the gulf with a nice looking WP hopper in the middle. Or some "new" used hoppers with CHTT reporting marks (to go along with the CMO Thrall types from last year).
Noted today that MWCX 462637 is a former CNW (ex-ROCK) hopper. The list can go on.
Same holds true with the sand trains. Along with the new WW's and WWUX's, old CNW, CR, and who knows what else in those 140 cars. Even sand loaded in old bathtub gons. Running 2x2x1 DPU to handle the 20,000 tons, I find it anything but boring.
And the least boring of grain trains has to be on the IC&E with their rolling museum of EEC, IMRL, ICE, NOKL, and AEQX hoppers. Second, third, and fourth hand equipment.
I just moved to a new place in Alexandria VA and have a fantastic view of what was once Potomac Yard. Then when I'm downtown walking to/from work, I get to walk along the tracks in downtown DC. It makes me put no effort into learning that I don't even give trash trains a second look.
I actually do like watching Amtrak go by. AMTK 61 just went by a few minutes ago. Saw that one heading down to Richmond last night too. 40 is missing its numbers on both sides, but its got ghosts where they used to be. I love seeing 123 because its been the lead on three of my trips on the Capitol Limited before.
There is no such thing as a boring train........
When it comes to the business of animals - virtually everything has a market except the oink or the moo.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Murray There is no such thing as a boring train........
I just watched the Juice Train go by. Even in all those identical cars there's variety in whats happened to them over their careers. Even some old orange reefers banging away in there too.
There's a trash train holding at the signal. Alllllllllllll identical gray boxes.
I would have to say intermodel. After all, the only difference between the containers is their color.
