I have a new Challenger by Athern. The speaker seams to be locked in a plastic container called a tender. Would opening hole let more sound out or ruin the auditory effect? Have any of You tried letting the sound free?  Thanks Gil in Vancouver Wa.

Welcome to the Forums, Gil!

You'll probably find lots of opinions on improving the sound of your Challenger over on the Model Railroader forums.  Good luck!  (This forum deals mostly with prototype railroads.)

However, I will point out that the tender of a steam locomotive is, or should be, a lot more than a receptacle for a sound system.  The real ones carried their fuel and water back there.
