Sone European Stuff

Last year, the family and I headed down to San Diego for vacation.  I got up early one morning to scout the railroad scene (basically this is what I do every vacation... wake up before the family and railfan). I found these Vienna trams sitting at the Santa Fe station in National City.

As I'm sharing a little bit of the old world, I figured I'd throw some pics from trips to France up here too.  I have to say, railfanning in France is a blast.  The trains just keep coming.

Here we see a "Dancer" pulling some rebuit RIO stock into Chartres (the BB-8500 is called a Dancer because of its rough ride, and the RIO stock essentially translates to stainless steel suburban coaches).

Now, going way back in time, here's a Dancer in much older paint at Jaun Les Pins.  I was thrown off the platform by a panicky railroad worker shortly after this shot.  He spoke no English, so I never figured out what he was upset about.  I think photography was allowed.

And for you Amtrak NEC fans, here is a "Broken Nose" engine (this is a sister of the unit Amtrak tested on the NEC in the late 1970s before choosing the Swedish Meatball design of the AEM7. This is also at Juan Les Pins, but from the road.
