I am the member of several boards simalar to this and the way they get around that issuse is simple first they lock the account of the person threating the harm.  If that person creates a new account they flat out block the IP address of the person therefore removing that person from the site permently.  Works real good on the other boards should work here.

I'm just trying to make the point that the members here prefer that the objectionable material be replied to as opposed to the entire thread being deleted all together. If they wish to blacklist me for expressing my opinion  I will be just fine and my life will not be affected.

May I make a suggestion? Making your point to the powers that be at Kalmbach might be better accomplished by not threatening to "Kick *** and take names." Bergie doesn't like it when you thinly veil foul language by using alternate characters ("$" as an "S" for example), either. A little more tact might get you a little farther.

So...this is a clique, huh? I've always stood against cliques.

Like it or not, WE ARE ALL MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM and this isn't about fitting in to a clique.

Let me say, as someone who is losing interest at light-speed, they will placate me if they expect me to renew my subscription and continue to purchase their publications. And how do they intend to placate me if they deny me inclusion into their "clique"?

Ps, this thread is still alive, several replies strong.

A clique? I suppose if you want to call a family oriented forum for the discussion of railroads, railroading and associated subject matter a clique, than this is indeed a clique.

And I really have my doubts that the powers that be up north will be overly upset if you decide not to renew. If it were me, I'm not sure I'd really want someone who wants to kick my derriere to be part of my clique...

If I were running the forum, your thread would have been deleted after your first post, Ted. Try behaving like a civilized adult and leave your "cute" substitutions in your head.

Oh, man, here we go again...

Does this crap ever stop???

Clique?? What clique??? In what way were you excluded?  Are you not a registered user here? If so, then what clique are you referring to?

You know, being an administrator on another site, I really, really, sympathize with Bergie.

I would have considered having this thread deleted on sight as soon as the language degraded to threats of going to wisconsin. I have been Admin in some capacity in gaming in real time servers and have booted players or banned them based on content they put into the game... I see forums as no different.

I consider thier oversight on these forums necessary and even more so after posts such as yours which will continue to require moderation and deleting as required.

Heck, some of my stuff was deleted in the few years Ive been a member here and rightly so. This is a forum, Kalmbach's forum to use as they see fit.

Let em delete and accept it. Otherwise these forums will degrade to a unusable state filled like a cesspool and of no use to anyone.

I have recommended that your thread be deleted. It serves no use to anyone.

It also further illuminated the need for moderation in face of your hard headed stubborness down this path.

Trains' conduct of which you complain is perfectly legal.  In contrast, your statement constitutes a crime in many states.

Sure it does Gabe. Why don't you come down here and TRY to arrest me for speaking figuratively. My intention was to merely stir the pot. It appears that I've succeeded.

It was a verbal threat of bodily harm. It doesn't matter that you spoke figuratively or not. Perhaps you should think of that before you post such matter next time.

My intention was to merely stir the pot. It appears that I've succeeded.

What a classic definition of a troll. How ironic that it came from the troll himself.

You threatened someone with bodily harm if they continued to engage in legal conduct.  That is intimidation, which is criminally sanctionable and ironic in light of your uninformed assertion that Trains is interferring with your legal rights.  There is nothing figuritive about it.

I do not have standing to arrest you; it would have to be done on the part of Trains--which would be a pretty cool way to get a troll off the forum.

You're right and I'm sorry. I regret resorting to immature actions to express my point. I don't want to harm anyone nor wish any harm on anyone.

But I feel that there is a better way than deleting entire threads. Several persons here have expressed better methods of dealing with objectionable material which I've yet to find myself. If somebody doesn't like it, it gets deleted. On and on it goes and I'm tired of it.

Please forgive me for speaking up for others who've had their threads deleted. However, next time I'd like to be notified before somebody wipes away what I've been reading with interest. It frustrates me to look for thread-J in order to find out what happened to thread-F.

I've had one thread wiped and it left me scratching my head as to why since so many people replied to it. And then when one guy read it and claimed that it didn't have anything to do with railroading (which it did) disagreements resulted. Soon afterwards the entire thread was completely wiped. That bothered me but I let it go.

We're all adults here and let's face it, kids aren't reading this crap (oops) anyway. They could if they wanted to but they don't. I haven't read anything until now that I feel shoud be wiped from the face of the earth without so much as an interjection from the forum moderator for all to read regarding the alleged objectionable material.

Again, my apologies to all of you. I will go away now quietly but I will continue to read everything that goes on here and keep my opinions to myself.

You don't have to go away quietly.  You just can't threaten people with physical violence.  I think there is a happy middle point that can be achieved.

Just my personal observations, but sometimes I think that despite the complaints, these threads are the most popular here. Take this one for example. It started bad, but the OP came around:

You're right and I'm sorry. I regret resorting to immature actions to express my point. I don't want to harm anyone nor wish any harm on anyone...

The thread was starting to slip into oblivion, but all of sudden it's been given new life. I doubt that resorting to bouts of name calling is going to aid in the matter, either. In fact, I'm pretty sure it'll have the opposite effect.

If you're really "spending a LOT less time around here for similar reasons," wouldn't it be best to stick to the more serious threads, LC? I think your vast knowledge of the industry could be put to better use than this...

Just my My 2 cents [2c].

Try this, Ted.

I noticed Trains and Model Railroader magazines are prominent in your avatar...so I assume you read them, correct?

If so, then adopt the tone and content you read there, and apply it here.

If it wouldn't be printed in either magazine, it probably shouldn't be printed here.

Not because of the forum police, those folks who seem to want only their narrow version of the forum to exist, but because most of the forum readers are Trains/Model Railroad readers, and expect the same tone here as in the magazines.

Trust me, the moderators of the forum are not deleting threads just because they don't like the poster, or even the content...a poster named Missouri was allowed several miles of rope and thousands of rants before he managed to hang himself.

It is simply that they remove threads because enough readers complain about the threads to leave them no option.

Now, that's not to say you can't express your opinion, quite the opposite, but try and find a way to do so in a manner that leaves nothing to complain about.

Note the threads where Zitt and I argue...I never called him anything worst than a troll, that and pointed out his contemptuous signature, quoting it verbatim...his responses were, at the least, disturbing, at their best, juvenile, and enough people complained that the threads were removed...which is as it should be, the moderators responding to the complaints of the readers.

I agree that a posting by the moderators informing combatants that complaints are coming in and to tone it down would be great, but with the sheer volume of threads in the entire forum, I doubt that's possible.

Do note that in the agreement you had to accept to register, you agreed that foul language was not condoned on this forum, and you are bright enough to realize that even using symbols fails to disguise the words, so you should expect complaints if you employ those words.

Besides, it is a excellent chance to exercise your brain, come up with ways to get your point across with out resorting to foul language, and still getting your point across.

Oh, and I got another locomotive for you to guess at!
