I think sometimes they use the scanner to spook railfans away. Happen to me at Penn Station Pittsburgh two nights ago. I was taking shots of NS Helper Set C7A at 3am waiting for the Cap Limited to come in. I was on the Amtrak owned platform but the helper set called the dispatcher and said that I was taking pictures right in front of them on the RoW. Dispatcher said he would call the cops.

I wanted none of that so I gave him a wave and walked back towards the Amtrak station. After that, C7A called the dispatcher again and said I must have had a radio because I took off.

Got down to the Amtrak side of the platform. When I got there, the Amtrak crew cracked some jokes at me, told me to be safe when taking my shots, and went on their way. PS- the cops never came and I got some cool shots of the Cap pulling into the Burgh
