Looks like there's more EMD's there too. I wonder if those are for CN too, or are they for KCS.

Even though I like the look, They are a BIG improvement on the C44-9W!!! They will get the job done and you wil not have to be hunched over.

CN ordered 25 SD70M-2's and 50 ES44DC's. They have the option of ordering 50 more SD70M-2's and 25 more ES44DC's before 2008.

CN has never ordered an AC traction motor locomotive, their route through the Rockies is flat.
Every newly built CP locomotive during the last 10 years has been AC.

The CN SD70M-2 is the DC version of the SD70ACE. Just like the ones that Norfolk Southern has purchased.

I don't know about that cab design. It grows on you but then you compare it to the previous versions of EMD cabs such as the Phase 2 stlye on late SD70M's and you wonder why and how it got off the drawing board. I believe that the straight window was more of a cost cutting feature. Making it easier to produce the cab. I think that CN wouldn't pay for a new design and went with an off the shelve model when selecting the options for these units. The series will be 8000-8019 for now. CN has only ordered 20 in the first batch. Also, notice the rear photos showing the logo on the rear up just below the roof line which is different than previous paint schemes.

Any railraod that buys the EMD SD70ACe or the SD70M-2 has the option of placing the light and nuberboards high above the cab or on the nose, it's intirely up to the RR.

Hmm, I like the CN paint scheme, but I don't think it works on this model loco.

The only way you can tell them apart is road name/number, the builder's plate, blue card, and a few louvers on the fireman's side. They are almost internally identical except for the ACe's AC traction motors and the M-2 has no inverters. Thank God they have the AAR control stands, as are most of the new ones...AGAIN!

Oh yeah, speaking of the 8000, I really love that, I think it looks pretty dang good. It could look worse...imagine it in stripes of the 80's...hey...that might look even better, lol. I would like to see them in Conrail, CNW or something. Lol, what about GTW or WC (hope not!). They might be seen in CN paint with submarks for a "member" (a.k.a. screwed) railroad of theirs, if I had to guess.

I agree its not like CN is not going to ship pairs of 2 of them across the country on different railroads.
