How about Braum's? There aren't ever any of them in this part of Texas, but when you get up north a ways and into Oklahoma and Kansas you find them pretty regularly. They put out a good meal, cheap too.

Braum's isn't too bad. The current wife is a Sonic fan....for whatever reason....kind of fun to go through the Whataburger drive through and get lunch for me, then park at Sonic for her and the kids.

I like In-N-Out, but I can't seem to go wild over it. Best fries at a fast food place right now are Jack in the Box IMO. Carl's Jr has some good eatin' too.

Dan

I think Braum's is like Whataburger in that they won't franchise, or at least they wouldn't a while back. My brother tried to get in on it several years ago and they wouldn't even talk to him. From the way I understand, they raise cattle, milk em for the ice cream and everything. I think it's just a fun place to look forward to when you're on I-35 heading to see mom in Kansas.

Other favorites of mine in this part of Texas is 59 Diner in Houston (the one off of Kirby and I think Shepard), Two Sisters in Flatonia (they cater our pavilion party), and Dan's Hamburgers in Austin (several locations), a real old fashioned grease bomb place.

mike

Now whoa..ho ho ho there pardner.....if we're talking Austin.......the old GM Steakhouse, that used to be on Guadalupe across from Dobie Mall...that was a killer burger....the day's meal ( and the next day's intestinal challenge)....or Martin's Kum-Bak (Dirty's) to the north of campus...okay burgers but the milkshakes.....yeah baby....and there was the original Schlotsky's and Thundercloud Subs for other bread borne feasting.....

Mr. Ed,

What do you think of your topic being kidnaped by a bunch of IMMORAL, LIBERAL, NEOCON SANDWICH EATERS?

WHAT WOULD OUR FOUNDING FATHERS THINK???

What you mean no fatburgers in LA, kemo sabe?? I can point you toward at least 2.

Dirty's has gone upscale--computer terminals, preformed patties and no roaches. Hut's on West 6th is far better these days.

Haven't had a TommyBurger in years--the gift that keeps on giving!!

I forgot about Hut's and Katz....yum yum......too bad about Dirty's......part of the charm was having the roaches ask you for a fry or two.....

And on the subject of sammiches...Antones......yeah baby! A super, bag of chips and some stuffed jalapenos.......does the body good!

I remember getting Antone's at the original store out by the dome when we first moved to Houston. I think they were about 60 cents then. Unfortunately, now everything's got the fat content listed on the package. Holy poo poo, those things have a day's worth of fat in one sandwich. Still one of the best.

Look, I won't argue with being immoral and a sandwich eater, but LIBERAL? I resemble that remark. And I don't know what neocon means.

Actually, I was over at MytiBurger, getting my daily ration of saturated fat and cholesterol...
But now that they mention it...Nighthawks in S.A sounds pretty good!

Mr Ed,

What type of fast food is the favorite among railroaders? I am considering being a railroader when I grow up, and want to start training now.

Sincerely,

There are a couple of yards here in town that, if the wind's blowing the right (or wrong, depending on your point of view) way, you could produce the ripest methane possible and your cab mate wouldn't even notice. The worst location is near ADM Corn Sweeteners, and there are at least four other sources of foul smells. Cedar Rapids has, in recent years, adopted the slogan, "City of Five Seasons"- wiser locals have modified it to "City of Five Smells".

In political battles, just about the opposite of liberal. Don't worry, it all balances out and makes you a good guy.

Darn I feel out of it! Never heard of an in-an-out and a Whataberger. We have a Tommy's here but it is only a three restaurant chain. They are darn good especially if you like hot peppers and jalapenos on your italian beef sandwich. Can't beat em. Positively make your eyes bug out like someone who just spotted an unannounced steam excursion at Rochelle!

Is that the Bosselman's Truck Stop? We have one in Grand Island NE if it is the same one. Good food!

FYI Tail-o-the-Pup to be moved.

The site where Tail-o-the-Pup is, the iconic LA building shaped like a hot dog and bun, is being ordered vacated, Stand will be moved off site to make way for condos, will post if I find out where new location will be.

OK for hot dog, personally I prefer Pink's on Highland best dog so far.

   Have fun with your trains
