Railroad bridges

Dear friends,

I'd like to know more about Milwaukee Roads, Great Northerns and Northern Pacifics bridges, and others too of course, the more pictures and drawings the better. Could you please recommend me any good books on the subject?

Jan Bojarp:
This posting, and your other one asking about the David Plowden book of bridge photographs, brings up the interesting fact that while there are books on railroads, and books on bridges, there tends NOT to be books about the bridges of a particular railroad. Speaking about the Milwaukee Road, the various picture books, such as Milwaukee Road West, do feature bridges but typically only if there is a train on them, not as engineering items in themselves. The Plowden book, and the William Middleton book on bridges, do not really organize themselves by railroad.
So I myself cannot answer your questions except to say this: ANY book by David Plowden is worth acquiring just for the photography. The various Milwaukee Road books out there do feature some bridges but not, I suspect, with the focus you seem to want. Apart from that I can be of little help.
