Maersk reportedly close to acquiring P&O Nedloyd

According to a report in todays Wall Street Journal Maersk is close to buying P&O Nedloyd for approximately $2.95 Billion strengthening its position in the global intermodal industry.

I saw that same article
I guess in the future out of necessity we are going to be railfanning for colorful containers and will get all excited about seeing an old Nedlloyd container still in service. Some of us still remember 40 ft boxcars with 6 foot doors!

That is quite a mega merger really. Maersk and Sealand merged awhile back and became quite large then and now with a merger of P&O Nedlloyd, I think they will be the largest container fleet next to maybe Trans America Leasing (I think they are the one that owns Genstar and all the rest)
