Two buddies chasing steam.

Peter and Bill were buddies in Nashville. They worked at the furniture wharehouse together. their favorite hobby was chasing steam, especially Van Sweringen Berkshires.
They had several great trips together chasing Nickel Plate and C&O 2-8-4s. Finally they heard what they were waiting for, PM 1225 was going to do a trip across Michigan ! They did not have a lot of cash, so they decided to sleep outside.
Everything went well until they got to Lima Ohio. They blew a tire. Change of plans. They decided to sleep beside the very busy exNYC line west of Toledo .They did not know NS had just had a derailment at the Maumee River bridge. They were worn out and quickly drifted off to sleep.
At three AM Peter was violently shaking Bob. "Bob wake up, wake up" he yelled. Bob said "Okay, I'm awake. What's wrong." Peter said "Look up! I just can't believe it!" Bob looks up and says "There's nothing there but stars. Haven't You looked at stars before?" Peter looks on in disbelief and says "Bob! Someone has stolen our tent!"

Somehow that reminds me of the story about the slow train in Arkansas, a mixed train that was always late. The riders were all regulars and had a hot dusty sweaty smelly ride in an ancient coach and were always late on top of it.
One day however the train pulls into town exactly on time! The regulars are amazed and take up a monetary collection and walk as a group up to the locomotive to reward the engineer for finally, for the first time ever, getting them to town on time. The engineer is embarassed by the attention and the gift and says,
"Thankee, thankee kindly but I cain't 'scept yer money. You see, this here is actually yesterday's train ...."

Have a nice day.
