Strange car-train accident

Near Columbia, this afternoon: Driver ran off road, hit a tree, continued to run down embankment and land on tracks. Car & driver SAT ON TRACKS for 2 hours, at which time they were struck by a CSX freight.
Driver's condition unknown at this time...

That sounds so awful.

During the Galveston segment of my EMS career, I responded to a car that was coming over a bridge, lost control, got airborne, turned upside down and wedged itself underneath a parked train car next to the road. No one was seriously hurt. But we were all amazed at the uniqueness of it all and that they weren't dead.

Years later, while working dispatch/EMS in Fort Worth, we sent an ambulance to a car that went off the highway bridge on I-35 on the northside of town, south of I-635, and landed on the tracks below, right in front of a moving locomotive. She didn't survive.

My prayers for the victim near Columbia.

According to the latest news, the driver survived the accident near Columbia. Knocked unconscious after going down the embankment and landing on the tracks and her car being hit by the train. Rescue workers got her out of the car. Very lucky.

That's the point where I stop thinking about being "lucky," and start wondering how much divine intervention was involved. Just my opinion I guess.
