BNSF Washout in Arizona Leaves Trains Stalled
Posted by desertdog on Monday, July 20, 2015 11:22 AM

Heavy rains inundated Wickenburg, Arizona this weekend, leaving heavy damage to roads and homes. Also affected is the BNSF "Peavine" linking Phoenix with the Transcon at Willams Junction. Some 1,000 feet of track has been washed out and aerial television coverage showed rails suspended in the air in places. At least one freight stopped short of the damage.

The washout has been repaired. Given the extent of damage, it's pretty amazing how fast they were able to restore the line. https://domino.bnsf.com/website/updates.nsf/updates-service-consumer/0C899E06250E0D1C86257E880038E41D?Open

This is the same storm that took out the I-10 bridges in Riverside County, CA.

Railroad MofW responds with a 'all hands on deck' mentality when it comes to line blockages, not only all railroad hands on deck but all the appropriate contractors that can be secured and brought to bear on the situation.

Hurrican Katrina just about obliterated CSX's line from Mobile to New Orleans and highways I-10 and US 90 that ran parallel to CSX for much of the distance.  The hurricane happened during the last week of August.  CSX was operating trains on the line at the end of February the following year, in many cases contracts had yet to be advertised for the reconsrutction of highway facilites by time CSX was running trains.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
