Hurrican Katrina just about obliterated CSX's line from Mobile to New Orleans and highways I-10 and US 90 that ran parallel to CSX for much of the distance. The hurricane happened during the last week of August. Heavy rains inundated Wickenburg, Arizona this weekend, leaving heavy damage to roads and homes. Also affected is the BNSF "Peavine" linking Phoenix with the Transcon at Willams Junction. Some 1,000 feet of track has been washed out and aerial television coverage showed rails suspended in the air in places. At least one freight stopped short of the damage.
