Storm damage blocks BNSF main in Cameron, IL
Posted by stebbycentral on Friday, July 17, 2015 5:49 AM

This picture posted to Facebook by a friend this AM.  He was unlucky enough to be in Cameron, IL railfanning when a confirmed tornado swept through town.  The Cameron grain elevator was totally demolished and the debris have buried the BNSF main from Galeburg, IL to Burlington, IA.  They were trapped in the community for most of the night by downed power lines that were blocking the roads into town, but were extracated early this morning.

I have figured out what is wrong with my brain!  On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!

The connection between "BN" and "SF" is east of town, so the ATSF line should be accessible to the west from Galesburg, and the Southwest Chief possibly won't be affected.  Can't say what will happen with the Zephyr until that's cleared up, though.

(Union Pacific [SPCSL/ICG/GM&O/Alton] and CN [IC/ICG Peoria Line] took a major hit at Delavan as well)...missed Bloomington again (Rats!)

TRAIN #4 has departed Galesburg 1 hour 23 minutes late on July 17.

And Train #3 seems to be doing well this evening, predicted 19 minutes early into Kansas City.

Evidently there was other severe damage in  Cameron but remarkably, only one fairly minor injury was reported.  I hope the goats in the little farm across the road and tracks from where I often do my morning railfanning in Cameron made it through OK as well.  Over the years I have become accustomed to their entertaining antics while waiting for trains there.
