If there's one word to describe Zug Island, it's "industrial."  As you'll note, there are/were steel mills an a coke plant there.  

What I remember of it when passing on the "Boblo Boats" was a lot of grimey black...  That even shows up on satellite photos:  N 42.28650 W 83.11053.

A google satellite view shows lots of activity on Zug Island. Modern autos and pickups parked in office lots, trucks, both small and large all around. Lots of smoke coming out of vents. Rail cars, hoppers, tanks, gondolas, box and some switchers, MP15 or SW1500s switching.
