We're running out of legends folks.

Travel easy on the Night Train, Mickey.  Rest in peace.

R.I.P Mr. Rooney.  I enjoyed your work many times.

But just what is that woman on the rail car steps wearing on her head?

"By many measures, the U.S. freight rail system is the safest, most efficient and cost effective in the world." - Federal Railroad Administration, October, 2009. I'm just your average, everyday, uncivilized howling "anti-government" critic of mass government expenditures for "High Speed Rail" in the US. And I'm gosh darn proud of that.

You mean Judy Garland?

You mean you don't remember those wonderful crazy hats women used to wear? For a memory refresher: Queen Elizabeth still wears them.

Judy Garland is the woman!  Maybe it is Kansas she is wearing on her head, instead of Toto.

Women did have strange hats back in those days.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Piano doesn't surprise me.

Note that he holds his drum sticks in the "classic" style - not like two clubs like most drummers do now.

Ditto. We all know Hollywood folks from the old days were not always, personally, what was represented in their films. Somehow, though, everybody seemed to try for a product that was better than themselves and -- it must be said -- better than the audience itself.

The product may not have met the definition of  high art -- but were we better or worse off for it?

Mickey was famous longer than anyone, about 87 years. It’s possible Civil War vets saw him in "Mickey's Pals,” alongside a Santa Fe train in the first scene.

In 1940, he rode Young Tom Edison’s old Chicago, Detroit, & Canada Grand Trunk Junction R.R.

Hmmm.  Wonder if the locomotive was the "Edison," currently in service at Greenfield Village...

Thats because he  learned how to drum and uses drums as a musical instrument rather than present day metronome drum guys, and correct hand position allows you to drum properly,  take a look at Buddy Rich.

It was the “Sam Hill” aka “The President.”  The Edison train was attached to a more contemporary train. Video clip shows the Sam Hill under its own steam, then Mickey, Mrs. Edison, Harvey Firestone and Father Flanagan talking to a crowd at the station. Incidentally, Mickey played the drums at the Edison Day Ball at Port Huron High School.

And don't forget Joe Morello, possibly the best, a true musician.
