Happy Monday,
It's time to vote for your favorite photo in this week's Trackside with Trains contest: "Wide open."
There are eight entries. The winner gets published!
Good luck!

A. J. Schewan's shot through the "wide open" caboose door caught my fancy. Lots of nice photos were submitted, but I thought this was the most interesting, and least conventional.

I also liked A. J. Schewan's picture because it took me back to the days when there were still cabooses on every train and I occasionally rode them deadheading or as a flagman or even a conductor a few times. A time now long gone.
To me, "wide open" connotes "notch eight." To that end, only the steamers fit the bill.

This is the one I sent in, didn't make the cut.
Wide open speed in the wide open spaces of Wyoming
To me, notch eight only works with a diesel, because it does.
Wide open on a steam engine, some of the old steam fellows I knew would call it having it, "to the roof".

True that. With a Diesel, I'd expect to see either a little smoke, or at least a "heat plume" above the locos.
