When I always watch Pentrex Train Videos, I always wonder one thing. What does the guy look like that narrates each and every train video that Pentrex Produces? (Counting - Previews and Videos)

Confession time: something about that fellow's voice is so soothing and mellow that I don't know if I have ever been able to stay awake for an entire Pentrex tape - especially dangerous when watching standing up at train shows.   I used to have the same reaction to hearing Curt Gowdy call a baseball game.  By the way Pentrex has a pretty nice photo gallery on its website.

Since none of the Pentrex videos I have include any credits at beginning or end about camera operator(s), editors, script writers, producer(s), narrator, etc., I suspect that Pentrex is a one-man operation.

I am glad to know that I am not the only one to have this problem. With the vhs tapes, I never did see the final 30 or so minutes of their tapes. I would fall asleep and the tape would keep rolling. Couldn't ever remember exactly where I went to sleep, so the next time I would start the tape close to the beginning, and yep I would fall asleep again.

Never kept me from buying their tapes/dvds though.

Always consider them my non narcotic sleeping pill if I ever get insomnia.

I can pretty much guarantee Pentrex isn't a one-man operation, I doubt one person could run what may be the largest railroad video company out there.

You could try a search of the forums as this has come up before. The narrator is a professional broadcaster who works for a local TV station in California IIRC but I don't recall his name.

It is almost certain to be the case.  I was in video production at an army base for a year, and I learned how spots are made for local airing.  We would always get a local announcer to do the voice-overs for us, and they don't mind the community involvement and service.  They could always do some jobs on the side for some extra cash, and such people are skilled at reading text in a professional way.

Local resources, including friends in the industry, but the price would be right.

Trying to put a face to a voice has been going on for years.  In most cases, the mental picture you form in no way resembles the person behind the voice.

One of our local radio types was also a volunteer firefighter.  Happened to hear/see him on the fire radio one day - his smooth, evenly modulated broadcast radio voice carried over to the two-way very nicely...

Could this possibly be the guy http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=302437&nseq=24. Read the caption below the picture and it says Pentrex or is this someone else who works for Pentrex. This is not my picture. By the way, that's a very nice Photograph.

In "some" Pentrex video the producer and narrator is Bill Warrick.  This is info found on their video's.

I have other videos from Herron Rail by Bill Warrick, and he is certainly NOT the narrator usually heard on Pentrex videos.

His name is Dave Drui. Pentrex listed their credits on the tape "Above 3751 over Cajon" and that's how I found his name.

I rather like the quirkly, somewhat ironic tone of the narrator in "From the Ashes" about the Northeast Corridor during formation of Amtrak/Conrail.

This is interesting.  Anybody near Seattle hear this guy?

From http://www.sovereigncruises.org/salem08/speakers.html :

"Dave Drui is a veteran of both TV and radio here in Seattle , the bay area and Los Angeles .  He can be heard as the host of Chip Ingram’s “Living On the Edge” radio program, along with several other national radio ministries.  Dave’s been with KGNW for 15 years as Production Director, host of the morning show and Program Director. "
