Paul,

I think the only thing on topic in this thread is being off topic.  Executive Orders, Red Storm Rising, and Red Storm Rising are 3 of my top 4 books  The Hunt for Red October is in it's own class to me.  The Op-Center books are "meh" at best.  I was getting at the prevalence of rail transport in RSR and more notably The Bear & The Dragon.  I recall a quote about the length of rail tranport needed to get where they needed to go.  "At least most of it's electrified" was the quote.  Wouldn't that be both a boon and a bain?  Sure you can use some mongo-hp locos and get to speed quickly.  If wires got cut/power is interrupted you're still SOL, unless you have some kind of backup, right?

The missle thing from Debt of Honor where they were transported along that particular mainline was interesting.  I always wondered how much US railways actually transported that kind of equipment.

See?  Some (sort-of) interesting tidbits in an otherwise..."different" thread.  Smile,Wink, & Grin

I will say this: she's not in the running with Florence Foster Jenkins. She seems to be trying, though.

Getting back to the subject by Wabash1, I wonder if he ever got "There"? Probably no Internet connection "There" as we have not heard anything from him. Maybe someone should send out a search party.
