How ugly is this paint scheme?

The Missabe Road: Safety First
Max, when I click the link it just throws me back into your post. - al s.
Fixed it.
If you punch it in manually, it gives you the Railamerica/FEC 70m-2s. And I agree.. they look hideous. If they would have put the red the whole way around the cab, instead of the half-finsihed look it has now, it may have been more tolerable. And ditch the pinstripes. And make the white/silver band smaller.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.

I dunno - they look OK to me. In fact, I think I like the scheme better than KCS's....

Both are way too busy for me. The KCS circus scheme look horrible when they are dirty, though.

Nothing can be worse than the dirty and rusted GM&O two tone maroon livery. Don't think I have ever seen a picture of the livery clean and shiney!
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
I totally agree with tree adn mookie...it looks good to me.
I don't think the paint scheme is all that bad, really, but I'd like to see that burnt-orange-passing-for-red in person to be able to judge fairly. - a.s.
Not ugly at all. What's wrong with red, white & blue?
Dan
The paint scheme itself is pretty cool, I think...BUT it's not Florida East Coast. I don't know why they couldn't have left it the way it was. Oh well, at least they decided to leave the FEC name on most of the new engines.

Basically, it's good, but it could have been so much better with just a few tweaks:
Paint colors to match the lettering colors or decal colors (lighter blue, darker red).
Less white, especially on cab.
Blue fuel tank and trucks?

But what do you expect for a no-bill outfit like Rail Generica?
Not ugly at all. I really like this paint scheme. And this company has spent an awful lot of extra money on it, what with three color, pin stripes, etc. Seems to me that's a positive thing...

I like the paint scheme...very nice.
I also like the paint scheme. I agree that less white could've beena bit better. I also don't get why the fuel tank and other lower areas are painted. or why they have all that and rusty couplers on the locos. They oughtta shine those suckers up.
Why is the 104 lettered "Rail America" and the others are lettered "Florida East Coast"?
BTW, I think they look rather spiffy.

Cant. The paint would hide defects. Not to mention the paint would be gone after one joint.

Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.

Oddly enough it was a lettering mistake by Mid-America Car- all of the locomotives were supposed to be lettered "Florida East Coast"- but for some reason this one emerged with "Rail America" on the flanks. This engine was also originally painted with a silver underframe, trucks and fuel tank- which has since been fixed to basic black like the others in the order. I had read that Rail America was going to fix the lettering- apparently not though.
The lettering is not cut off on the units either- they say "Florida East Coast" and "Rail America"- the blower duct and battery boxes behind the cab obscure the rest of the lettering.
This scheme was also discussed on the Locomotives forums. I guess it's all a matter of taste. But what is just as important is what it signifies, the Florida East Coast is indeed part of RailAmerica, which someone said it has actually been for a while now.
I figured teh couplers weren't allowed to be painted, nor would it last long, but would it be possible to have scraped off the rust and applied some type of finish to maintain a more metallic look than a rusty one? Is there anything out there that keeps the rust off? I've seen enough couplers that haven't rusted a significant amount, and I'm wondering how they resist the elements better, at least for a while.
Better than the SP/SF merger Kodachrome scheme
Have fun with your trains
You dont understand. It would be like painting a hammer silver and then banging it against another for days on end.
is this ugly?

Presuming that couplers/draft gear were painted a 'light' color, visible crack detection might even be enhanced as the dark rust line emanating from a crack would be more easily seen against the light background of the paint. With rust being the normal color of these parts, cracks don't jump out and identify themselves as readily as they would against a light colored background.
Does this mean every time I see these locos I have to stop, get out of my car and salute? The only thing missing is a photo of 20 Rockettes doing a high kick.
Actually, I rather like the scheme.
It's the canvas it's painted on that's just plain ugly!
(And to think people criticized the BL-2.)
