Is CP getting rid of the Beaver crest?
Posted by Ulrich on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 10:53 AM
I see that some of the new power lacks the gold beaver crest. Is that an oversight or is CP getting rid of it? I hope the gold crest is gone...I like the candy apple red with white lettering..looks awesome..simple and beautiful.  The problem with the beaver crest is that it looks like a stain from afar.

They got rid of it a while ago...I can't remember exactly when, but I think it might have been as early as 2006. Simplifying their corporate identity, and as a result, making their paint scheme the most unimaginative of any current class 1. Take that, NS!

Actually the new GEVOs arrived before they figured out that the beaver wouldn't fit...they designed a smaller one, but were dissatisfied with the appearance...so the GEVOs just have the CANADIAN PACIFIC lettering on the sides...
Don't worry,it's not supposed to make sense...

I'm sure they will come up with bizarre looking logo, and this company has some of the best looking older logos of anyone. This gold beaver crest logo, can anyone tell me if the lettering was on different sides of the beaver on each side????  seems they had a problem with this.

Well let's hope they killed the beaver. Their present scheme may be unimaginative but hey..so is Brittney Spears but she still looks good.

I liked the beaver. I hope it comes back, but I like the solid red GEVO's, too. I think at least one of these locomotives is painted up for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver already.

Long live the BNSF .... AND its paint scheme. SchemerBob

I hope not ...that's what makes the CPR standout from it's CN competition. Besides, who wouldn't mind working for the "Golden Beaver"?

A buddy of mine as a t-shirt with the old CPR beaver shield and an old codger with a cane. Under the images is the lettering: "Official CPR Beaver Inspector"

Umm...have you looked at a recent pic of Brit?? Shock [:O]

Well the Beaver crest is about as old as the CP, but it isn't that easy to see on the locomotives. BTW I read somewhere that employees have been told to refer to it as "Canadian Pacific" and not "Canadian Pacific Railway" anymore.

The CP seems to have had more corporate identities than Gene Hackman's had movies. From Canadian Pacific Railway, to CP Rail, back to Canadian Pacific Railway and now just Canadian Pacific.

The Golden Beaver was cool and looked great in the sun, too bad it didn't fit on the GEVOs. However, CP will probably have had two new logos by the time the last of the Golden Beavers are repainted.  There are still a few Multimark and ex-Milwaukee Bandits still out there (The Soo bought the Milwaukee back in what, 1985 so the orange on those engines is at least 23 years old now)

Cheers!

I thought the olympic units were kind of cool before there were another 18 of them...

The Beaver is still the Canadian Pacific logo. Its used in advertising, on their letterhead, and on their website. They made the decision to not use it on their locomotives, because it no longer fits well.

I'd love to see them go back to the old beaver shield , more in touch with their rich history. Heck I'd love to see the tuscan and grey come back.

I prefer the action red with the multimark...that looked nice. Tuscan and grey looked nice too..one of the shortlines (Iowa Northern I think) has used it for their own locos today.

Yeah, IANR has a lot og GP38s that are very remeniscent of 3084!

I'd vouch the multimark and action red as well, tuscan red and gray is a very nice paint scheme, but compared to red in the snow, it just doesn't hold up!
